YONSEI HANDROLLS
Located across from the Fox Theater and directly next door to Itani Ramen, Yonsei Handrolls serves open-faced Japanese sushi handrolls made of crisp nori, seasoned sushi rice, and top-notch fish.
Sip on sake and Japanese-inspired cocktails, set to a soundtrack of 90s hip hop, and get lit by a neon sign that spells “Yonsei” in English and kanji characters — a nod to Chef Kyle Itani’s Japanese and American heritage.

Good Luck Gato is an izakaya cantina, a term we use to describe our collective heritage, our professional experience, and the fact that Japanese and Mexican drinking and food cultures naturally coalesce in the strong traditional recipes that are passed down generationally. Both cuisines highlight fresh ingredients with umami-forward flavors and both have renowned street food cultures that we work into the cocktails and small plates of this drinking establishment. We serve small plates with big flavors, thoughtful cocktails, beers + shots, and laidback vibes.

Ninth Life is a cocktail bar inspired by the ‘80s, ‘90s & ‘00s. You can expect a fun and vibrant cocktail menu littered with pop-culture references created by our friend and co-owner, Daniel Paez. If you grew up in that era, this bar will make you feel nostalgic in the best way.
Ninth Life is located next to Good Luck Gato and is open Wednesday - Sunday from 5-10pm. Come hang with us!

Kyle brought his passion for Japanese cuisine and culture to Uptown Oakland in 2012 when he opened his first restaurant, Hopscotch - a classic American diner with a Japanese twist. He was among Oakland’s early culinary pioneers who helped establish a destination restaurant scene and earned himself a San Francisco Chronicle Rising Star Chef Award and a spot on the Chronicle’s Top 100 Bay Area Restaurants list.
In June 2023 the restaurant closed and Hopscotch Catering was born. Now Chef Kyle creates customized menus for special events throughout the Bay Area carrying on the beloved cuisine of Hopscotch. Check out their sample menus for your next event - a wedding, birthday bash, retirement party, bridal or baby shower, etc.

ITANI RAMEN
Itani Ramen opened in 2016 and was inspired by Kyle’s extensive travels and a brief residence in Japan. Known as a place where all are welcome, this “izakaya for everyone” offers homemade gyoza, donburi bowls, cocktails, and plenty of ramen.
